About USG
Our History
From the very beginning, USG’s mission has been simple: we create building products that improve the world around us. We formed in 1902, when about 20 gypsum companies came together as the United States Gypsum Company. Twenty more companies joined the next year, and a network of gypsum mines, quarries and processing plants spread across the United States.
In 1916, we disrupted the construction world with our invention of Sheetrock® panels, changing the way interior walls were installed. A sales representative named it Sheetrock® and our most well-known product was born.
Today, USG is a market leader in wallboard and gypsum products in North America, but we also invented latex paint, mineral fiber ceiling tile, shaft wall elevator systems and Durock® cement panels along the way. These products sped up the building process and improved the way buildings could be designed and built. We have helped built some of the world’s most iconic structures, such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Lotte Tower in Seoul, and the Freedom Tower in New York.
Gypsum Division
Our Gypsum Division is home to the iconic products like Sheetrock® brand drywall and joint treatment that made us synonymous with high-quality building materials and solutions, as well as innovative products and systems that simplify work, speed up the construction process and reduce the number of people required on job sites.
Ceilings Division
Our Ceilings Division includes products from traditional grid suspension ceiling systems, the industry’s first integrated acoustical drywall system and specialty products that inspire thoughtful designs.
